The story was based on an Indian king, even though it is called that.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Thou... , the king in question was Persian, and the ruler of a Persian empire. The same article also mentions that his empire extended to India, but I don't think that is sufficient to label the king as Indian.
If you have other references/sources for this, do let me know.

I own a book written by Richard Burton (who first translated it) and it mentions that the king was Indian. I am not sure if Wikipedia is right or wrong.

Oliver Twist?? Tiger Saga?? Schindler's List???
For that matter, though 'chandrakanta' and 'monk who sold his ferrari' are by indian writers, no way they are related to mythology!

I can't believe that there are so less books on Indian Mythology. In fact when I started to search for Indian mythology books, I found books based on Mahabharata and Ramayana only. Much older books on Hanuman have been neglected

Disappointed that K M Munshi's Krishnavatara isn't on the list. I've read them so many times my copies are in tatters.

Indian Mythology is not what is being written nowadays. So all the recent fiction have no place here. Or the name of the list must be changed.
